As part of our commitment to maintaining your oral health through Preventative Dentistry, Hollis Dental Practice also performs Gum Hygiene treatment. Our Dental Hygienist inspects the gums and performs any necessary procedures to maintain their health.
Scaling and Polishing Teeth
Maintaining gum health involves many of the same procedures used for Dental Hygiene treatments. One common procedure is scaling and polishing teeth, which involves removing built-up plaque and tartar from each tooth.
Plaque and tartar form when bacteria become captured by the biofilm that covers your teeth. These slowly harden over time into a hard, rough substance that brushing and flossing cannot remove. The rough surface of plaque and tartar captures even more bacteria.
When the gums become damaged, and the bacteria migrate into these soft tissues, an infection can occur, which is what scaling and polishing teeth helps to prevent.
Maintaining healthy gums also involves practising healthy oral health habits at home. Our Dental Hygienist can recommend a regimen of daily activities to perform to keep your teeth and your gums healthy. Our Hygienist can inspect your gums and tweak your regimen to address any issues she finds.
If, however, you become affected by gum disease. Hollis Dental Practice can refer you to a Periodontist who can work with us to treat the infection.
We have been coming to this dental practice for over 25 years and during that time have received first class treatment in a friendly & professional environment. Many thanks.
I registered at the practice as an NHS patient and I was very pleasantly surprised. Friendly receptionist and the dentist Dr Sam Protty was brilliant (and calming). He told me straight away what is the issue with my front teeth what other dentists failed to identify in the past 5 years.
